DENEFF: Bringing energy efficiency to society

In the RE:DESIGN EFFICIENCY creative competition, the Deutsche Unternehmensinitiative Energieeffizienz e.V. (DENEFF) set the task of using photographs, graphics or illustrations to make the invisible – the unused kilowatt hour – visible.

Wind turbines, solar roofs and electricity pylons illustrate renewable energies. But there is a lack of meaningful images on energy efficiency. They can be an important support in communicating the sometimes complex solutions in a more attractive, understandable and memorable way.

The aim of RE:DESIGN EFFICIENCY was to make precisely such images available free of charge so that organizations, authorities and consultants can draw attention to the issue and motivate people to take action.

For five months, artists from all over Germany worked on photographs, graphics and illustrations to develop catchy images of the energy transition and the top 30 were compiled as Creative Commons.

The RE:DESIGN EFFICIENCY project ended in spring and the final event was a salon discussion that brought together exciting personalities from the art and culture scene and publishers from the sustainable creative scene.

In this context, we reported on initial results and assessments from the think tank “Visual solutions for science communication”, which we initiated at the beginning of 2024, and enjoyed the exciting panel discussion moderated by Tanja Loitz, Managing Director of co2online gGmbH:

  • Prof. Dr. Gesine Schwan / Political scientist, Berlin Governance Platform
  • Prof. Michael Buttgereit / Professor for Communication Design, ecosign
  • Valentina Crosato / laif foundation for independent photojournalism
  • Volker Heck / Managing Director, Deekeling Arndt Advisors (DAA)
  • Christian Noll / Diplom-Kommunikationswirt and Managing Director DENEFF
